Federal Skilled Trades Program
The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is for people who want to become permanent residents of Canada based on being qualified in a skilled trade.
To be eligible to apply, you must:
- Meet required levels in English or French ( CLB 5 speaking and listening, 4 reading and writing )
- Have 2 years of full-time ( or equivalent ) work experience in a skilled trade within 5 years before applying
- Meet all job requirements for that skilled trade according to the National Occupational Qualification
- Have a job offer ( LMIA approved ) of full-time employment from up to two employers for at least 1 year or a Certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial body.
The total number is 100. The applicant has to score 67 points in order to be admitted to the program.
What kind of work Experience do I need for Federal Skilled Trades Program?
Your work experience must be in a trade that is part of Skill level B in the Canadian National Occupational Qualification. You must have had that work experience during last 5 years but it doesn’t have to be continuous.
